Forensic Science
LGC's leading position in high-accuracy mass spectrometry measurements at low concentrations (1 in 109) has been exploited in the analysis of illegal drugs in body fluids. LGC has developed the first system in the world that can measure the illicit drug LSD in urine samples, down to 1 part in 109, with a direct form of analysis that has a reproducibility of better than 5%. Ethanol analysis, too, has been improved through high-accuracy measurements, using a novel form of combustion mass spectrometry.
