Food safety
LGC focuses on issues that affect human and animal health,
safety and security, are controlled by legislation and are of
direct concern to government, industry and the consumer.
Public protection is the core of these
activities and the majority of our work involves surveillance and
monitoring as well as associated research and development.
Key areas of LGC’s food safety activities
include BSE testing, the determination of
micro & macro nutrients, food allergens, residues
and contaminants (veterinary medicines, pesticides, mycotoxins,
heavy metals), additives, GMOs and authentication of food. We also carry
out environmental chemical and
radiochemical monitoring, as well as security-related chemical
and biochemical surveillance and
monitoring.
