Government Chemist
The Government Chemist at LGC applies sound analytical
science in the public interest, providing expert evidence and
advice to Government and industry.
The statutory duties of the Government Chemist involve acting as
an independent and impartial referee analyst in cases of dispute.
The Government Chemist also has responsibilities to advise the UK
Government and the wider analytical community on the analytical
chemistry implications of policy, standards and regulations.
The current Government Chemist is Dr Derek
Craston, who is LGC's Director of Research & Technology. He is supported by a
team of experts, including Dr Michael Walker
who holds a Mastership in Chemical Analysis (MChemA), the statutory
qualification needed to practise as a Public Analyst.
