Bursary
Dr Rebeca Santamaria-Fernandez, a senior analyst at LGC, has
been awarded the Allan Ure Bursary by the Atomic Spectrometry
Updates Editorial Board
The award is in memory of Dr Allan Ure and is in recognition of
his great contribution in the field of atomic spectrometry and
environmental chemistry.
A graduate in analytical chemistry from the University of
Oviedo, Spain, Rebeca obtained a MSc degree in Environmental
Sciences under the SOCRATES/ERASMUS programme at Plymouth
University. Rebeca also studied for her PhD at Plymouth University,
where she mainly focused on the development of new sequential
extraction methodologies for trace metals in soils, sediments and
biotracers, reflecting Dr Allan Ure’s field of research. She was
then appointed a Marie Curie Post Doctoral Research Fellow within
the Food Authenticity R&D Team at Eurofins Scientific
Analytics, Nantes, France, before joining LGC´s Specialised
Techniques team in 2005.
The Allan Ure Bursary is presented to a scientist who the
adjudicators believe has made a significant contribution to
knowledge in the area of the application of atomic spectrometry to
environmental science. The award is made on an annual basis,
alternately by the Atomic Spectroscopy Group of the Analytical
Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Atomic
Spectrometry Updates Editorial Board. The successful applicant
receives £500 to help with any expenses that may be of benefit to
their career.
