12-April-2006 - LGC wins esteemed RoSPA ‘President’s
Award’
For the fifth consecutive year LGC’s Teddington Laboratory has
been awarded the prestigious ‘President’s Award’ from RoSPA, Royal
Society for the Prevention of Accidents
This is a particularly memorable year to receive the prize as it
marks 50 years of the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards
and LGC is celebrating its tenth year in the private sector.
Created in 1956, RoSPA’s national award scheme recognises
excellence in health and safety performance by private and public
sector organisations. Over the years the scheme has developed with
various levels of achievement awards (‘Merit’, ‘Bronze’, ‘Silver’
and ‘Gold’) progressing up to the Gold Medal (five consecutive Gold
awards), President’s Award (five consecutive Gold Medals) and
finally the Order of Distinction (five consecutive President’s
Awards).
There are three fundamental purposes to the RoSPA scheme: to
motivate improvement in health and safety performance by providing
targets (through different award levels); to recognise and
celebrate health and safety achievements at a national level; and
to provide role models for other organisations to follow. The
application process for the award includes the completion of ten
key performance questions, an overview of LGC’s health and safety
system and a full portfolio including all relevant documentation.
This is then assessed by a panel of experts.
John Day, Group Quality Manager and Safety Advisor at LGC said
"Winning this award again clearly demonstrates the continuing
commitment to occupational health and safety by staff at LGC. It is
rather exceptional for a laboratory to win this award five years in
a row and it is therefore a real achievement for LGC." John
will be attending the RoSPA awards ceremony on 10 May in Birmingham
to collect LGC’s certificate.
