10-Aug-2006 - Role of LGC Forensics in the Damilola Taylor
trials (2006)
LGC Forensics, incorporating Forensic Alliance, presented fresh
evidence for the Metropolitan Police at the Old Bailey during the
recent Damilola Taylor trials
By their very nature, reinvestigations are always complex, but
forensic science is now such a powerful tool for investigators that
innovative approaches and meticulous attention to detail often
yield vital evidence which can help to solve a case even years
after the event.
Dr Angela Gallop, Director, LGC Forensics, said: “We are very
pleased to have been able to assist the Metropolitan Police in the
reinvestigation of Damilola Taylor’s murder, and then the court in
its deliberations during the recent trials.”
She paid tribute to the forensic scientists involved: “It is
through their dedication, skill and flair that the scientific
evidence emerged and helped to bring closure to the case.”
Dr Gallop also made a more general comment: “Without the
Government’s far-sighted policy of opening up a market in forensic
science, LGC Forensics would not exist and be able to provide such
a powerful alternative source of expertise for investigators and
the courts.”
