09-Oct-2009 – ‘Practical Statistics for the Analytical
Scientist’ latest edition is out now - written by two LGC
scientists
A fully updated and revised version of this key resource
for practising analytical scientists and students is now
available
Written by LGC’s Dr Stephen Ellison and Vicki
Barwick and published by The Royal Society of Chemistry
(RSC), the second edition of ‘Practical
Statistics for the Analytical Scientist’ is now available. The
second edition is a fully updated and revised version of the
original book which was first published by the RSC in 1997.
Production of the second edition was supported by the
National Measurement Office under
the Chemical and Biological Metrology
programme.
The application of statistics is central to
the assessment of data quality and an understanding of statistics
is essential for the interpretation of analytical
results. ‘Practical Statistics for the Analytical Scientist’
is designed to help practicing analytical scientists and students
identify the correct statistical parameters and tests to apply to
their data. The second edition contains new sections on method
validation, measurement uncertainty, effective experimental design
and proficiency testing. The book provides the reader with a set of
statistical tools to help them plan effective experiments and apply
appropriate statistics for data evaluation.
Key features of the new edition include
coverage of the essential statistics used in analytical science;
the application of statistics in important quality assurance
activities such as method validation, evaluating measurement
uncertainty and proficiency testing; extensive worked examples
which illustrate important statistical techniques and
self-assessment questions with detailed solutions to test
understanding.
The book is available from RSC Publishing,
price £29.95. For further information click here.
