Investing for the
future – LGC merges its forensics operations in the North
West
LGC announces plans to reshape its forensic
facilities in Runcorn and
Risley
LGC, an international
science-based company and recognised market leader in forensic and
diagnostic services and reference materials, has announced plans to
make a significant investment in its forensics site in Risley,
Cheshire, creating a new flagship forensics laboratory in the North
West of England. The investment is part of a reshaping of LGC’s
forensic facilities in the North West in order to align work more
closely with customers’ needs.
The largest of four
divisions of the LGC Group, LGC Forensics
currently has eight sites in the UK, including sites at Risley and
Runcorn in Cheshire. Following the growth of LGC’s forensics
business over the past two to three years, the company has been
determining the most effective way of delivering its forensic
services to customers nationally.
A key part of the reshaping
of the North West forensics operations will be to optimise the
operations across the two sites. Significant investment is planned
to extend and upgrade the facilities at Risley, with a 7,000
ft2 increase in space enabling a number of new
laboratories to be built. Approximately 40 Runcorn Forensics staff
would be expected to relocate to Risley once building work there is
complete. A number of opportunities at LGC’s other sites will be
created as a result of the move.
David Richardson,
Chief Executive of LGC, said: “This major new investment in our
forensics laboratory in Risley is a clear indication of LGC’s
commitment to meeting the needs of our customers in the North West
and of our confidence in the forensics business. LGC’s forensics
business has grown rapidly over the past two to three years and we
are now preparing ourselves for significant future growth in this
competitive marketplace. We are conscious of the need to
continue providing valued services at a competitive price,
particularly at a time when public sector budgets are under
pressure.”
