01-September 2010 – LGC
and China Association for Standardisation sign Memorandum of
Understanding
LGC and CAS announce plans to collaborate on distribution
of Chinese industrial reference materials and food safety testing
services in China
LGC, an international
science-based company and recognised leader in chemical and
bioanalytical services and reference materials, has signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the China Association for
Standardisation (CAS) to collaborate on a number of future projects
and business initiatives in the area of analytical reference
materials / quality control materials and food safety testing in
China.
In 2009 LGC opened an office
in Beijing, signalling a milestone in
the company’s development and heralding discussions with government
departments and private companies in China to collaborate on a
range of business areas.
Through the Beijing office,
LGC is now promoting a wide range of proficiency testing schemes, including bespoke
schemes, as well as our portfolio of European reference materials covering chemical,
pharmaceutical, clinical, forensic, food, environmental, industrial
and biological standards.
The LGC-CAS collaboration
will initially focus on distribution opportunities for industrial
reference materials made in China for European and other
international markets and for a specific range of European
reference materials for the Chinese market. In addition, both
parties will work together on initiating food safety testing
services in China.
The MOU was signed on 12
August in Beijing by David Richardson,
LGC’s Chief Executive, and Ma Lincong, Secretary-General, China
Association for Standardisation, AQSIQ.
Commenting on the
announcement, LGC’s Chief Executive David Richardson said:
“It’s a great pleasure to have signed this agreement with CAS
and we look forward to working with Mr Ma and his colleagues at
CAS. LGC is keen to identify new market opportunities in China and
to market Chinese reference materials and specialty reagents using
our worldwide network of sales offices”.
Mr Ma, Secretary-General of CAS, added: “The
signing of this MOU will help China’s domestic reference material
users to gain easier access to LGC products, and will help step up
the sale of our domestic RM products outside China. This two-way
benefit will lead to faster development of the RM sector."
