Petroleum geochemistry
LGC’s Petroleum Geochemistry Group provides a wide range of high
quality analytical and geochemical interpretation services for the
oil and gas exploration industry. Our expert services include:
- Source rock evaluation - Screening potential source rocks from
outcrop, cores and cuttings to establish the richness and maturity
of rocks and determine whether the exploration is likely to contain
oil or gas
- Oil show characterisation - Compositional and isotopic analysis
of oil shows from seeps, seabed cores or trace shows to
characterise the nature of source rocks operating in the basin and
to indicate the likely nature of future petroleum finds.
- Reservoir hydrocarbon characterisation - Compositional analysis
of reservoir fluids to identify whether the reservoir is
compartmented, the extent of biodegradation, presence of ‘sweet
spots’ and position of oil water contact.
