LGC has a long history of providing important support to UK Government and Institutions.

Our contracts with BIS underpin both LGC’s role as the UK’s designated National Measurement Institute for chemical & bioanalytical measurement and the statutory function of the Government Chemist.

  • Providing a vital role in helping to improve the accuracy and reliability of chemical and bio-measurements that are important to the UK's industrial competitiveness and quality of life.
  • Acting as an independent and impartial referee analyst in cases of dispute and advising the UK Government and the wider analytical community on the analytical chemistry implications of policy, standards and regulations.

Further regulatory support to UK Government is offered by our offering specialised services to establish and operate purpose-built laboratories on behalf of our customers.  We currently operate medicines testing and pharmacopoeia laboratories on behalf of the MHRA.

Our support for Government extends to programme management on behalf of a number of external funding organisations.
