Our food capabilities
LGC’s commitment to the implementation of leading edge
technologies provides stakeholders in analytical science, from both
industry and the public sector, with a centre for scientific
excellence.
Analytical techniques span a range of scientific fields
combining traditional chemistry, nanotechnology and advances in molecular biology to create powerful methods for
use in analysis and scientific research.
Techniques available within LGC include HPLC , GC , (headspace)
GC-MS , GC-ToF , GC-TOF-MS , LC-MS , LC-MS- MS , AAS,
electrophoresis, immunoassay and molecular biology (e.g. DNA based
methods), ICP-OES , XRD , MS , (ATR-) FT-IR and NMR.
State-of-the-art technology in the form of a gas chromatograph
with time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-ToF-MS), for example, has
significantly reduced time of analysis of residues enabling larger
batches of samples to be examined quickly and cost-effectively.
Sample chromatograms and the mass spectral database can be
revisited in subsequent months or years for retrospective analysis
allowing searches to be made for compounds not initially
targeted.
