Improving in vitro toxicity testing for drug
discovery
LGC is partnering with reinnervate, a UK biotechnology company,
to offer reinnervate’s novel three dimensional (3D) in
vitro culturing scaffold, Alvetex®. Through studies funded by
the UK’s National Measurement System,
LGC scientists demonstrated the ability of Alvetex® to imitate
liver cells in the corporeal environment.

Press release: LGC and
reinnervate collaborate to improve in vitro toxicity testing for
drug discovery
Emergent technologies, such as in vitro predictive
toxicology, which combine high-throughput reproducible screens with
toxicogenomic, proteomic, metabolomic and in-silico techniques,
offer the potential to reduce drug attrition rates and the use of
animals in the late stages of drug development. Their
implementation with novel approaches, such as 3-D culture systems,
offer real potential to reduce in vitro variability and
increase process performance.
