Testing Of Soils, Nutrients And Fertilisers For Agriculture

The questionnaire linked below is gathering data on laboratory sampling and analysis of agricultural soils and nutrient-supplying materials. This is part of a scoping study of laboratories that offer analytical services to agriculture, to ascertain the methods currently being used and what QC procedures are in use.

This study is part of wider Defra work to help improve the management of nutrients and fertilisers by the farming industry.  Laboratory sampling and testing is of growing importance to help ensure economically efficient farming, secure our food supplies and to help reduce nutrient losses to the environment. Efficient use of nutrients can help optimise crop productivity and maintain the health of soils – an important factor in tackling climate change.

The results of the survey will inform Defra’s work with farmers and their advisors aimed at increasing the efficiency of nutrient use to secure acceptable crop yields as part of a thriving farming and food sector whilst contributing to reducing the net environmental impact from agriculture.

We would be grateful if you would complete the questionnaire linked below and return it to us by email to pete.colwell@lgc.co.uk by 24 August 2010.
