Environmental Statement
LGC is an analytical laboratory with more than 40 years experience in environmental
science, consultancy and risk assessment, acting on behalf of both government and
private sector clients. As such we are aware of the environmental responsibilities
placed upon those who operate in a modern laboratory environment.
LGC actively seeks to minimise the environmental impact of its business operations
through adherence to statutory requirements and the application of in-house
specialist skills. The adoption of the most appropriate environmental practices
commensurate with the requirements of a large diverse laboratory and its customers,
is at the forefront of our operating philosophy.
LGC has an Environment Officer with a remit to advise on and monitor compliance with
statutory requirements, instigate the adoption of best practice initiatives, to
actively manage LGC's waste stream and to seek ways in which the company can reduce
its environmental impact.
The Laboratory has an Energy Manager with responsibility for the operation of an
advanced energy management system and to continuously achieve energy savings as
the technology to make reductions evolves. LGC carefully matches its energy usage
to its business requirements, making sure that losses are minimised and patterns
of demand are optimised. All staff are involved in reducing energy waste.
The laboratory has adopted a policy of waste segregation and minimisation and
where viable, recycling takes place in preference to disposal via other routes.
The reduction in the use of chemicals, particularly organic solvents, is at the
fore of our policy of reducing our impact on the environment. To this end, in-house
research is carried out into the development of alternative analytical methods
using microanalytical techniques and non-ozone depleting solvents.
