Dr Derek Craston, The
Government Chemist and Director, LGC Science &
Technology
Derek Craston holds the position of Government
Chemist and is also Director of LGC Science & Technology. The
LGC Science & Technology division undertakes major contracts
for directorates and agencies of UK Government, including the
National Measurement Office (as a UK National Measurement
Institute), the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, the Chemicals
Regulation Directorate and the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory
Agency. The division also provides programme management for several
Government Departments, measurement services for the private
sector, and support for the development and exploitation of new
analytical techniques to meet the future needs of LGC's
business.
In his role as Government Chemist, Derek is
responsible for the work we do as a referee analyst and as advisor
to government on analytical matters relating to regulation and
policy. Derek joined LGC in 1991 as a leader of the company's
research and development activities, and has over 15 years'
experience in management within a high technology environment.
