Breaking through the £50m sales threshold has fulfilled our corporate plan targets. Last year sales grew by 26% to £52m and operating profit before tax by 83% to £4.6m. Profit, including exceptional items, amounted to £5.5m.

Notable achievements during the year included:

  • After successfully completing the first year of operation of our Teddington DNA crime scene laboratory, the building of a similar facility at our Runcorn site due to open in summer 2003;
  • New distribution agreements reached by LGC Promochem, including a collaboration with ChromaDex;
  • Worldwide sub-licensing of our patent on CYP2D6, a genetic sequence which indicates whether certain drugs are compatible with individual genetic make-up;
  • The award for the second year running of the RoSPA President's Award for Occupational Health and Safety, following ten years as a Gold Medal Award winner.
