Financial highlights 1999-2000
LGC has exceeded the targets set when the Company was formed
four years ago. Key figures for 1999 reflect our strong balance
sheet, enabling us to achieve substantial further growth in the UK
and overseas:
- Turnover increased by over 20% to £23.0m (1999: £19.1m);
- Profit on ordinary activities before taxation increased by 66%
to £1.53m (1999: £920,000);
- LGC restructured into five divisions, three market-specific
divisions and teams focused on technology and our wider role in
relation to government;
- European distribution network for reference materials expanded
to include offices in France and Sweden.
Other notable achievements in 1999-2000 include:
- The award by North West Water plc of a major contract to our
subsidiary, Pipeline Developments Ltd for the provision of
consultancy and inspection services.
- The profiling of over 100,000 samples for the National DNA
database.
- The award by the Child Support Agency of a five year contract
to provide paternity testing services based on DNA technology; this
makes LGC the largest DNA diagnostic company in the UK.
- An agreement with ATCC (American Type Cell Collection) to act
as their distributor and agent in Europe and other overseas
markets.
- The award of a contract to manage the LINK programme for the
Department of Trade and Industry.
- The award of the RoSPA Gold Medal for occupational safety for
the fifth year in succession.
