Financial highlights 1998-1999


  • Turnover increased by over 20% to £19.1m (1998: £15.66m).
  • Profit on ordinary activities before taxation, increased by over 19% to £920,000 (1998: £773,000)
  • Award by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) of a five year contract to carry out analyses as part of the European-wide food surveillance programme.
  • Acquisition from ICI of their analytical support group at Runcorn.
  • Approval by the Drinking Water Inspectorate to carry out Regulation 25 testing and approval support.
  • Collaborative agreement with North West Water under which environmental services will be jointly marketed.
  • Expansion of the DNA facility which is currently processing samples for the national DNA database for a quarter of the police forces in England and Wales.
  • £3m DTI LINK programme set up with LGC as the lead consultant, to develop a 'Laboratory on a Chip'.
  • Award of the ROSPA Gold Medal Award for occupational safety for the fourth year in succession.
